XI. Activity Standards:  Frank Pecora for Kathi Bierwith & Dan Marlow

·        The process of appeals was discussed. Who should handle these?  Leagues, VPA or Committees?

·        Substance abuse violations were discussed. Should the VPA enforce a statewide policy once tournament time comes around?

·        Dance. Should this become a VPA sponsored activity?

·        Calendar.  Suggested that we go with a 16 team tournament format instead of play-in games.  This would give us more play dates in the regular season.

XII. VPA Report:  Bob Johnson

·        Attendance at VPA tournament games this winter was up.

Motion was made to warn this position for May meeting vote.

·        Award Ballots were handed out. Fill out and return to Frank Pecora.

XV. New Business

·        16 teams in the tournament.  Mike O’Day spoke in favor of limiting to 16 teams. Motion to recommend to the VPA and ASC to limit the tournament field in all sports to a maximum of 16 teams.

Motion:  Mike O’Day  2nd: Gary Girard

Passed           (36 in favor, 1 opposed, 1 abstain)

·        Staggered start for sports season.  Seems that the basketball coaches liked the staggered start but most of the AD’s present liked it the way it worked this season.  Discussion centered around leaving the winter start like it was this year (shot gun style).

·        Fair Haven volunteered to host Football or Soccer tournaments.

·        Fall tournament sites. If you would like to host, please let the VPA know as early as possible.

·        Baskeball scheduling concept. Some schools are looking into playing JV & Varsity games on the same nights but at opposite sites.

·        2 year terms for Executive Committee officers.  Warn to change the bylaws to allow 2 year terms of office for officers. This would allow for better flow and to allow officers to get good at their jobs.

Motion:          Brian Trottier          2nd: Gary Girard          PASSED
